Next, we employ a metal wire brush to further wear down the wood. Scoring marks and cutting some pieces off with a dull utility knife add to the worn appearance.

Painting and Washes

The key to achieving a convincing paint job lies in using washes. We create washes by diluting cheap acrylic paint with water. The first coat is a yellowish wash to provide a base color and coverage.
